Our Grand Voices!
Our Grand Voices! was a Northern Ireland Opera Outreach Project, specially created for Belfast City Council’s Positive Ageing Month initiative. This singing workshop was open to anyone over the age of 60, regardless of singing ability, to come together, sing together and perform together. The three hour event was facilitated by singer Helenna Howie and pianist Ryan Greer and consisted of over 40 participants. Not only did they learn physical techniques to improve their voice, they also sang in italian and were able to perform music from Mozart’s Così fan tutte.
Read some of feedback from the participants and watch some of the highlights from the day below!
“From the first moment, it was exciting, informative and most of all, fun.”
“I loved the breathing and physical exercises at the beginning. As the morning progressed, I felt more at home and relaxed – confidence grew.”
“Getting people who haven’t met one another or sung together before to sing together almost immediately was done with skill.”
“Absolutely perfect. A good balance between breathing/voice exercises and different types of songs/music.”
“It was really well constructed and in the time we had, to practise three pieces of work was quite an achievement.”
“Couldn’t have been better!”
