The ‘Sweeney Todd’ Public Debate
On Saturday 9th February we are combining forces with the Queen’s University Belfast debating society, Literific, to host a debate at The Lyric Theatre discussing some of the moral issues at the heart of Stephen Sondheim’s musical thriller ‘Sweeney Todd’. As Sweeney becomes the master of his own, bloodthirsty law, can we watch without being complicit in the doings of a serial killer?
The question posed for debate, ‘Who Has The Right To Judge‘ will discuss revenge, guilt and the distribution of power. The guest speaker is Dr Fabian Schuppert, Philosophy Lecturer at QUB specialising in moral philosophy.
No prior knowledge of the story of ‘Sweeney Todd’ is required to participate.
This is a free event, all are welcome and it will take place in the bar area of the Lyric Theatre, Belfast, from 5 p.m.
