Our next '#SalonSeries event at @themacbelfast is coming up on April 13 at 7.45pm and travels on to the @playhousederry on May 25. 'Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered' celebrates the American Songbook and the golden age of musical theatre, with performances of classic songs by George Gershwin, Stephen Sondheim, Cole Porter, Rodgers and Hammerstein and more. Book your tickets and experience an hour of witty, heart-rending and spectacular songs performed by @wendymferguson and @ruthmcginleypianist with John Gillen @gillenthegreat on drumkit and Peter Doherty on bass. Wendy Ferguson has performed roles in musical theatre productions in the West End, throughout the UK and internationally with roles including Madame Thénardier in Les Misérables (Queen’s Theatre London) and Carlotta in The Phantom of The Opera (Her Majesty’s Theatre, London). NI Opera audiences will remember her performance as 'Jack's Mother' in our award-winning production of 'Into The Woods' at The Lyric Theatre last spring. Pianist Ruth McGinley – Artist in Residence at the MAC in 2022 – had already gained widespread recognition as one of Ireland’s leading pianists by the age of 16. Since then, her career has been wide-ranging and daring, collaborating with some of the most acclaimed musicians working today, and straying from the typical classical-pianist journey. Tickets are on sale now via the bio link or at the MAC - book soon! @artscouncilni @ourbelfastmusic #AmericanSongbook #Belfast #AprilEvents #BookNow #springconcert #gershwin #sondheim #rodgersandhammerstein #wendyferguson #musictheatre #musicaltheatre #westend #westendmusical
'Chorus!' Booking now! The NI Opera 'Chorus!' concert is coming to The Ulster Hall @waterfront_ulster_hall on 18 May at 7.30pm, with tickets at £20/£15 and a community group rate available too. This concert puts these highly accomplished opera practitioners as the centre focus of opera and allows us to perform many varied styles and periods of writing for an opera chorus. Come and enjoy well-loved favourites as well as some lesser known delights. The concert will include works by Purcell, Wagner, Puccini, Verdi, Tchaikovsky and John Adams. Our choristers have become one of the greatest assets for our company and through this specialised programme they have worked with industry professionals including vocal coaches, conductors, language coaches, choreographers and movement directors from highly prestigious opera houses all over the UK and Europe. You can see some images of their performances over the last year in this post, at The Harbour Commissioner's Office for a concert last year, at The Ulster Hall for a performance of Mendelssohn's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' last Spring and in 'Tosca' and 'La Traviata' at The Grand Opera House in 2023 and 2022. For this concert, they will be working with conductor James Grossmith and 'Chorus!' will also feature conductor Margaret Bridge as part of her Artist Development Programme performance outcome. The pianist for 'Chorus!' is Tristan Russcher. Chorus reviews: ‘The locally based NI Opera chorus is, post-Covid, new, recruited through open auditions earlier this year yet already able to produce the vital, full-bodied sound needed for Verdi’s beloved work.’ The Observer ‘Ravishing choruses, as hypnotic as the marquee arias, inject peroidic brio into the musical narrative.’ Theatre News, La Traviata Find out more and book via the link in the bio.
